Privacy Policy - the basics

A privacy policy is a statement that discloses some or all of the methods a website uses to collect, use, disclose, process, and manage the data of its visitors and customers. It typically also includes a declaration of the website's commitment to protecting the privacy of its visitors or customers, as well as an explanation of the various mechanisms the website has implemented to safeguard privacy.

Different legal obligations regarding the content of a privacy policy apply in different jurisdictions. It is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with the laws relevant to your activities and location.

What must be included in the privacy policy

In general, a privacy policy often addresses the following topics: the type of information collected by the website and how it is collected; an explanation of why the website collects this type of information; how the website shares this information with third parties; how your visitors and customers can exercise their rights under applicable data protection laws; specific procedures regarding the collection of data from minors; and much more.
